Class Action Litigation

Over the course of his career, Attorney Robert Naumes has litigated against some of the largest corporations in the United States for personal injury, bad faith settlement practices, and product liability claims. In addition to representing individual clients he has successfully handled claims for thousands of victims in class action law suits.

For the past ten years, he has worked with five other plaintiff law firms on an historic case against Travelers Insurance Company for its bad faith asbestos litigation practices. Originally filed in 2001, this case has gone from state courts to federal Bankruptcy, District Court, the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

In 2003, Travelers agreed to settle the state court claims for $445,000,000. Although the settlement was approved by the Bankruptcy Court, several other insurance companies intervened and appealed that decision. Travelers used this technicality to renege on its settlement agreement even after an adverse ruling by the US Supreme Court.

In September 2010 the plaintiff firms moved to enforce the settlement in Bankruptcy Court. Judge Lifland ordered Travelers to fulfill its payment obligations and added approximately $65,000,000. In interest for the victims. Travelers has continued to appeal and finally on July 22, 2014 the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed the settlement agreement and the additional interest.

Attorney Robert Naumes has the experience and expertise to develop a legal strategy that is specifically tailored to meet its clients need. As part of a class action or an individual suit, the Naumes Law Group will fight for decades if necessary to obtain justice for their clients.
